Etiquette and Visitor Guide

Parking

  • Free three hour parking is located in the museum parking lot off of Deer Lake Avenue. Parking is limited; please see our website for alternative parking locations.

Visitor Facilities

  • The Orientation Plaza and Carousel Pavilion provide reception, information services and wash room facilities. Carousel ticket sales may be purchased at either location. A gift shop is located within the Carousel Pavilion.
  • Open-air picnic facilities are located throughout the site primarily in our Meadow and adjacent to the Ice Cream Parlour. Non-booked spaces are available on a first-come first-served basis. For rental inquiries call: 604.297.4552. Food is not permitted inside our displays and exhibit areas. 

Access

  • Most of the facilities meet wheelchair accessibility standards for ground floors, including washrooms in the Orientation Plaza, Carousel Pavilion and Tram Barn.
  • A paved roadway connects the buildings on the historic grounds, and benches are located throughout the site where you can relax and enjoy the scenery.
  • A wheelchair (manually operated by a companion) is available on loan from the Orientation Plaza and our Carousel Pavilion.

Language Services

  • Translations of our Visitor Site Map are available in Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese & Chinese.

Pets

  • Pets, with the exception of service animals, are not permitted within the site.

Photography

  • Visitors are welcome to take pictures for personal use only. Photographs cannot be sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever.
  • Visitors taking photos in a way that is considered inappropriate, unsafe, or which impedes the visitor experience will be asked to refrain from taking photos. Visitors may not use flash inside exhibits.
  • Visitors are allowed to take photos on the Carousel as long as they each pay for a ticket to ride. Un-booked wedding parties/groups do not have exclusive use of the Carousel and should not impede visitor enjoyment of the Carousel. Booked groups may be given up to 2 minutes before the ride begins.

Safety

  • Bicycles, scooters, tricycles, skate boards, roller/in-line skates or shoes with wheels are not permitted on the Museum site.
  • Alcoholic beverages not purchased on premises are not permitted and may only be consumed in the designated licensed area.
  • Respect all artifacts on display by not touching them.
  • Parents /or Guardians must accompany their children at all times.
