Community Advisory Committee

Join the Burnaby Village Museum Community Advisory Committee

Application deadline: January 30, 2025

The Community Advisory Committee is a volunteer opportunity at the Burnaby Village Museum (BVM). The purpose of the advisory committee is to provide advice and identify contacts for projects that support the Museum’s goal of highlighting cultural diversity across Burnaby.

We want to hear from you to help ensure the voices of all those who call Burnaby home are reflected in our exhibitions, activities and events. This is a great opportunity for volunteers to learn more about how the BVM works, share their ideas and passions, and collaborate with colleagues from across the City.

The BVM, as part of the City of Burnaby, is committed to diversity and inclusion in our own organization. We strive to work with community members that reflect the diverse experiences, backgrounds and geographic representations of Burnaby’s many communities. We highly encourage members from historically underrepresented or marginalized groups to join this committee. If you are interested in learning about the vision, mission and interpretive values of the Museum, read our About webpage.

About the role

The Community Advisory Committee offers ideas, guidance and suggestions on project work and future plans and serves as advocates in the community in support of Museum initiatives.

Participation in the committee is anticipated to involve approximately 10 hours of a committee member’s time each year (3 1.5-hour meetings, requiring around one hour each of preparation) plus we encourage your attendance at one program or event produced by the Museum each year. Each term is 2 years with the possibility of 2 sequential terms. Members should be familiar with local community networks in Burnaby, be motivated to foster strong public participation and support creating equity in an informal learning environment. The committee may include at least 4, and up to 9 members.

Service on the committee is non-remunerative, and no travel is anticipated outside of Burnaby.
